MTM Power cooperates with Vesla EMS for the production of selected DC/DC power supplies used in demanding railway environments and industrial applications. While all products are fully developed by MTM Power’s in-house R&D team, Vesla EMS is responsible for translating these designs into consistent, high-quality production.

A partnership built on trust and practical collaboration

Mr. Christian Müller, Teamleader Technology at MTM Power, summarizes our collaboration as follows:

“Our cooperation with Vesla has always been to our full satisfaction in every respect. Their strong communication, technical expertise, reliability in meeting deadlines, and determination to master even the most demanding challenges are key factors in achieving high customer satisfaction. Many thanks to the entire Vesla team!”

From the start, MTM Power was looking for a manufacturing partner who could guarantee reliable deliveries, stable quality, and a cost-efficient production process over the long term.

Vesla EMS approached this collaboration with a strong focus on transparency and hands-on problem solving. Over time, this resulted in a partnership where both teams actively work together to refine processes and continuously improve production outcomes.

Mastering mixed-technology assembly

One of the key challenges in this project is the nature of the PCB design. Unlike many assemblies that are predominantly SMT-based, MTM Power’s products include a significant number of through-hole components.

This requires a different skill set and production approach. Vesla EMS combines automated SMT placement with carefully controlled manual and semi-automated THT assembly. These through-hole components are essential for power handling, mechanical strength, and long-term reliability, especially in harsh environments.

Together with MTM Power, specific solutions were developed to meet strict technical requirements. For example, very short lead lengths on components required tailored processes and close coordination between both teams to ensure consistent results without compromising quality.

Custom tooling for consistent results

To support this mixed assembly process, dedicated tooling and production jigs were developed. These include custom-made fixtures for wave soldering (“moules”), designed to ensure correct positioning, protect sensitive areas, and stabilize the PCB during soldering.

These tools are practical solutions developed during ongoing production. They help reduce variation, avoid rework, and ensure repeatable quality across batches.

A reliable partner for demanding applications

Today, Vesla EMS acts as a long-term manufacturing partner for MTM Power. The combination of MTM Power’s design expertise and Vesla’s production reliability results in robust power solutions that perform under demanding conditions.

This collaboration shows how close cooperation and a pragmatic approach on the production floor lead to better results than standardized manufacturing approaches.
